In a solid opener for his Wimbledon title defence, Britain’s Alfie Hewett achieved an impressive victory over Spain’s Daniel Caverzaschi in just 54 minutes.
The accomplished Hewett, who boasts ten singles Grand Slam victories and 22 doubles titles alongside his fellow Brit, Gordon Reid, dominated the match with a final score of 6-1, 6-2 on Court Three.
At the age of 27, Hewett celebrated his first Wimbledon title last year, marking a significant milestone in his career by achieving a complete Grand Slam.
As the second seed, he is set to take on China’s Ji Zhenxu in the quarter-finals, and he will not face his doubles partner Reid until the final round.
Additionally, Hewett and Reid are gearing up to launch their pursuit of a third consecutive doubles title, with their first match scheduled for Wednesday.
In a disappointing turn for British wildcard Dahnon Ward, he was defeated in the first round by Spanish third seed Martin de la Puente, with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
