Historic Triumph: Jermaine Wattimena Clinches First PDC Ranking Title at the Players Championship in Milton Keynes

Jermaine Wattimena Triumphs with First PDC Title in 2025

In a landmark achievement, Jermaine Wattimena claimed his first PDC ranking title with an 8-5 victory against Lukas Wenig during the 2025 Players Championship 23 in Hildesheim. Despite a history of six losses in previous finals, the Dutch player finally broke through on Wednesday, celebrating a significant milestone in his decade-long career on the PDC ProTour.

Wattimena’s win underscores a recent trend on the Players Championship circuit, marking him as the third consecutive first-time titleholder, following the victories of Bradley Brooks and Sebastian Bialecki in recent weeks.

“This victory means everything to me. After suffering through five ProTour finals and a major final without a title, I’m overjoyed to finally capture one!” Wattimena expressed. "Lukas is a tough competitor; we both missed several doubles, but I was fortunate enough to come out on top.”

With an impressive average of 103 and 104 in earlier matches against Jose de Sousa and Rob Owen, Wattimena showcased his prowess by executing a stunning 157 finish to overcome Gabriel Clemens 6-4 in the third round. He continued his strong performance, defeating Danny Noppert and Ryan Joyce 6-4, before decisively winning against Brooks in the semi-finals with a score of 7-2.

The final saw Wenig, making his own debut in a Players Championship final, face off against Wattimena. The match was competitive, but Wattimena secured a two-leg lead with a pivotal 106 checkout in leg 10, ultimately claiming victory with a concluding 107 finish.

Wenig demonstrated his skill throughout the tournament, securing his place in the final by defeating Belgian player Mario Vandenbogaerde and Tom Bissell, followed by a trio of commanding wins over Jimmy van Schie, Daryl Gurney, and Justin Hood.
