In a hotly contested match at the Cincinnati Open, Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over Hamad Medjedovic in two straight sets, advancing to the fourth round. The intense heat on Tuesday posed challenges for many players, but Alcaraz managed to keep his cool, securing a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
As he gears up for the upcoming US Open, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports from August 24, Alcaraz faced difficulties breaking through Medjedovic’s powerful game. However, he showcased determination during critical moments to secure the win.
Next up for Alcaraz is Luca Nardi, who will face him in the Round of 16 following Nardi’s opponent, Jakub Mensik, retiring mid-match.
“He’s a strong player, and I knew I had to make him move a lot, which proved challenging,” Alcaraz commented after the match. “I’m very pleased to win and play well despite not feeling at my peak all the time.”
The match began evenly, with both players exchanging the first six games. However, Alcaraz broke through in a lengthy 13-minute game to lead 4-3, eventually taking the first set with grit.
Although Alcaraz surged ahead in the second set by breaking in the fifth game, Medjedovic quickly equalized at 3-3. However, the Serbian player struggled with the oppressive heat and was forced to shorten his points, which backfired when he hit two drop shots into the net during the seventh game, allowing Alcaraz to regain his break.
This time, there were no openings for Medjedovic on Alcaraz’s serve, and the Spaniard celebrated his 50th match win of the season.
