Trump Revokes Kamala Harris’ Secret Service Protection: A Shocking Move Amidst Political Turmoil

(NewsNation) — In a notable shift, President Donald Trump has eliminated the Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, a move that comes after she had her security detail extended by former President Joe Biden. This development was confirmed by a White House representative on Friday.

According to federal legislation, Harris was entitled to six months of Secret Service protection post-office, a term that concluded on July 21. Biden had previously authorized an additional year of service, which was enacted just before he vacated the presidency, as indicated by a source close to Harris.

However, Trump’s administration has now revoked this extension, as revealed in a letter acquired by CNN. The correspondence stated, “You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those mandated by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

Additionally, protections for Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, also ceased on July 21, according to a member of her team.

This shift in security occurs as Harris prepares to launch a nationwide book tour for her upcoming memoir, “107 Days,” set to debut on September 23.

In March, Trump similarly terminated the Secret Service protection for Biden’s adult children, initially extended until July just before he stepped down in January.

While former presidents and their spouses are granted lifelong Secret Service protection, coverage for immediate family members over 16 years old ends upon leaving office. Outgoing presidents have the discretion to extend protection for family members for up to six months post-administration, a privilege that Trump also utilized for his family when he left office in 2021. Previous presidents, including Barack Obama and George W. Bush, have exercised similar extensions for their family members.
