Zandvoort Showdown: Lando Norris Outshines Oscar Piastri in Dutch GP Final Practice Ahead of F1 Qualifying

Lando Norris demonstrated his prowess during the practice sessions for the Dutch Grand Prix, placing him as a top contender for Qualifying at Zandvoort on this Saturday in 2025. After leading both sessions on Friday, Norris clocked the fastest time in final practice, outpacing teammate Oscar Piastri by 0.242 seconds. Remarkably, Piastri holds a slim nine-point advantage over Norris in the Drivers’ Championship standings.

The track conditions, evolving after morning rains, allowed Norris to outperform Piastri in every sector during his final soft tire run, hinting at a potential repeat of his pole position and victory from last year’s race at Zandvoort.

As noted by Karun Chandhok from Sky Sports F1, “Lando certainly appears to have the upper hand and will carry significant psychological momentum into qualifying after dominating all three practice sessions.” However, he cautioned, “We can never fully count out Oscar, as he often keeps some pace in reserve for the qualifying rounds. It promises to be an exciting showdown.”

Mercedes’ George Russell finished third, albeit 0.886 seconds off Norris’s leading time. He is currently under investigation for a peculiar incident in which he nearly collided with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso just before entering the pit lane during final practice.

In fifth place, Carlos Sainz from Williams put in a commendable effort, closely followed by local favorite Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Lewis Hamilton experienced issues during his qualifying simulation, landing him in 14th, despite showing competitive speeds earlier in his Ferrari.
