Back in the Game: Santi Cazorla Sparks Real Oviedo’s 24-Year LaLiga Return

After a lengthy absence of 24 years, Real Oviedo has successfully secured their spot in LaLiga, triumphing with a thrilling 3-2 aggregate win over Mirandes in Saturday’s promotion playoff.

The decisive match took place at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere, where Oviedo turned the tide with a commanding 3-1 victory at home. Key goals came from Santi Cazorla, Ilyas Chaira, and Francisco Portillo, leading to euphoric celebrations as fans flooded the field at the sound of the final whistle.

Based in the Principality of Asturias in northwest Spain, Real Oviedo will join Levante and Elche in next season’s top league, taking the place of the relegated Leganes, Las Palmas, and Valladolid.

“Words can’t fully express the significance of this moment for us. Each of these players is a hero and deserves immense recognition,” exclaimed Oviedo’s coach Veljko Paunovic in an interview with LaLiga TV.
