Thunderbolts and Tragedy: Dothan Home Catches Fire After Lightning Strike, One Hospitalized

Dothan, Alabama – June 2025 – A series of lightning strikes swept through the Dothan area on Wednesday evening, leading to a dramatic house fire. This incident occurred on Woodleigh Drive, close to Flowers Chapel Road, as intense storms moved across the Wiregrass region.

According to the Dothan Fire Department, the flames were ignited directly by a lightning strike. Fire Chief Larry Williams confirmed that one individual required hospital treatment due to smoke inhalation, although no other injuries were reported.

The fire was successfully contained shortly after 10 PM. A video captured in the Bay Springs area on the west side of Dothan showcases lightning bolts illuminating the stormy sky, reflecting the severity of the weather event.

This dangerous weather pattern has affected many in the Wiregrass as severe thunderstorms continue to roll through the region.
