Burnley’s Bold Move: Martin Dubravka Joins the Squad as Newcastle’s Goalkeeper Transfer Sparks Excitement in Premier League

Burnley FC has secured the services of Slovakian goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

At 36, Dubravka has transitioned to Burnley after a successful seven-and-a-half-year stint at Newcastle, where he initially joined on loan from Sparta Prague in January 2018. Throughout his tenure at St James’ Park, he made 179 appearances and recorded an impressive 51 clean sheets across all competitions.

He was instrumental in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph last season, where he maintained clean sheets in pivotal matches, including both legs of the semi-finals against Arsenal.

Burnley was on the lookout for a capable replacement for James Trafford, who returned to Manchester City in July after a record-breaking transfer for a British goalkeeper. The Clarets had a remarkable 2024-25 season, securing promotion to the Premier League with 100 points and an astounding 33-match unbeaten streak, narrowly missing the Championship title to Leeds United on goal difference.

Expressing his enthusiasm for joining the club, Dubravka remarked on Burnley’s positive reputation and dynamic environment: “I’ve only heard really positive things about the club, the culture and the environment we work in.”

He further emphasized his excitement to contribute to the team: “Burnley had a fantastic campaign last season, built on a superb defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad of players.”
