Cadillac F1 Team’s Bold Journey: Dan Towriss on ‘Building a Ship While Sailing It’ for the 2026 Season in Miami

Cadillac’s F1 Ambitions for 2026: Navigating Challenges and Progress

Dan Towriss, the CEO of Cadillac, has acknowledged the complexities faced by new entrants in the Formula 1 realm, asserting they are “building a ship while sailing it.” Nonetheless, he expresses optimism about their readiness for the upcoming 2026 season. Since receiving formal approval in March to join the grid as the 11th team, efforts have intensified to ensure immediate competitiveness.

Towriss, collaborating with team principal Graeme Lowdon, attended the Italian Grand Prix, where he provided insights on their development. “We’re mostly on track,” he stated to Sky Sports F1. “There are ups and downs because progress isn’t always linear, but we’re pleased with where we stand so far.”

Compounding the challenge of preparing for the 2026 season, the team operates from multiple locations—two bases in the USA and a facility in the UK at Silverstone, where the chassis design is underway. They also utilize a wind tunnel in Cologne for aerodynamic testing. Towriss explained: “We’ve had a 60 percent scale model in the wind tunnel for quite some time, and our team has been diligently working on it.”

The past weeks have seen significant team expansion, with 50 new hires joining Cadillac’s ranks. “We are assembling everything needed, from infrastructure to resources. We’re busy organizing for timely shipment for the race weekends,” Towriss added.

In late August, Cadillac made headlines with the signing of seasoned drivers Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas, looking to leverage their extensive experience. Towriss emphasized the importance of their backgrounds, stating, “The drivers’ pedigree is crucial. They’ve encountered similar challenges in the past and are ready to hit the ground running.”

While some had hoped for at least one American driver on the team, Towriss reassured fans that the team’s American essence will shine through. “From a cultural standpoint, Cadillac will represent the U.S. We’re part of a global sport, and that diversity enriches our team dynamic,” he explained, noting the distinct accents within their ranks, alluding to a blend of cultures that will shape their identity.

As Cadillac gears up for an exciting first season in Formula 1, anticipation builds for their debut at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix this weekend, broadcast live on Sky Sports F1. Exciting times lie ahead for Cadillac as they navigate the thrilling world of F1 racing.
