FIFA has announced significant ticket price reductions ahead of the Club World Cup opener in Miami on June 14, highlighting the participation of football icon Lionel Messi.
As FIFA aims to fill the stands, they have implemented steep discounts on thousands of tickets for the June 14 match at Hard Rock Stadium, where Inter Miami will face Egyptian team Al Ahly.
According to a report from The Athletic, “tens of thousands” of the 65,326 seats remain vacant, raising concerns about attendance for the 8 PM ET kickoff featuring Messi’s MLS club.
While FIFA dismissed claims that ticket sales were below 20,000, they stated the actual number sold is “much higher” but didn’t specify an exact figure.
The organization emphasized the opportunity to showcase various emerging clubs from around the globe, stating, “We are creating a platform for new, successful teams during this tournament taking place across 11 cities in the USA. We expect impressive attendance figures throughout this inaugural edition—an event we believe will expand in future iterations.”
As of Tuesday evening, ticket prices for the highly anticipated game had plummeted to $55 on Ticketmaster, a significant drop from the prices just one month prior. Following the tournament draw in December, the cheapest tickets began at $349 before decreasing to $230 by that month, according to The Athletic.
The 32-team FIFA Club World Cup is set to run until July 13 and features MLS representatives including Inter Miami, Seattle Sounders, and Los Angeles FC, alongside renowned football giants like Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Inter Milan.
