Franco Mastantuono: The Emergence of Real Madrid’s Bright Young Star in La Liga

This young talent, who has already earned three senior caps with Argentina, is making waves in his homeland.

“Franco’s time at our club has left a lasting legacy,” shares Roberto Binzuna, president of Cemento Armado, the club where Mastantuono honed his skills before transferring to River Plate, in an interview with BBC Sport.

“Ultimately, time will reveal how enduring this legacy will be.”

“He is an extraordinary young man, exhibiting both remarkable athletic and personal qualities—he excelled in tennis as well as football,” adds Binzuna.

“His talent is unmistakable; he consistently outshines his peers, including seasoned players, and possesses a phenomenal strike.”

Mastantuono’s striking power, particularly evident in his stunning free-kick against rivals Boca Juniors last April, which soared into the top corner from approximately 30 yards, has attracted considerable attention.

Moreover, this left-footed player is agile, deftly maneuvering the ball while dribbling—a skill he has showcased from the outset.

“I recall his eagerness when he was on the ball. What I observed truly set him apart,” remarks Marcelo Olariaga, vice president of Club Atletico River Plate Azuleno, where Mastantuono began his football journey.

“In comparison to others, he moved lightly with the ball but always had it close at hand.”

Though he typically starts on the right wing, his most significant contributions often occur in central roles.

During River’s debut in the Club World Cup this summer, which resulted in a 3-1 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds, Mastantuono drifted inside and delivered a precise pass that set up Facundo Colidio’s opening goal.

Statistically, Mastantuono has played 64 matches for River, netting 10 goals and assisting on seven occasions. At just 16, he became the youngest player to score for the iconic Argentine club, recognized for its illustrious red sash.

Additionally, he holds the record as the youngest athlete to compete for Argentina’s senior national team, achieving this milestone against Chile in June 2025.
