In a stunning upset, Lisa Ashton triumphed in the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay, overcoming 11 missed match darts from Fallon Sherrock in an exhilarating final leg in Blackpool. This marked Ashton’s first victory at the event.

Ranked fifth, Ashton first defeated Ireland’s Robyn Byrne in the quarter-finals before knocking out reigning champion Beau Greaves in the semi-finals, ultimately setting the stage for a thrilling showdown with Sherrock.

Ashton kicked off the final with an impressive 85 checkout and quickly seized an early lead with a 15-dart break. However, Sherrock responded with a remarkable 13-dart hold, igniting a streak of three consecutive leg victories.

After Sherrock momentarily took the lead at 5-4, Ashton capitalized on Sherrock’s missed opportunities, holding throw in the tenth leg before forcing a final leg decider. Ashton sealed her victory with a 64 finish amidst Sherrock’s struggles at the board, clinching the match 6-5.

Beau Greaves opened the tournament with a commanding 96.12 average, defeating Kirsi Viinikainen 4-1 and earning an impressive 15-darter before hitting a snag when she missed five darts at double in the second leg.
