Manchester United Set to Secure Mbeumo Deal: Medicals on the Horizon Amidst Exciting Transfer Window

Manchester United is nearing a transfer agreement for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, with his medical examination scheduled shortly.

Manchester United has reportedly finalized terms to sign Cameroonian winger Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for an initial fee of $87 million, as coach Ruben Amorim looks to revitalize the team’s struggling offense.

Mbeumo’s impressive performance last season, where he netted 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances, captured Amorim’s attention during his assessment of players to enhance United’s attack.

While Tottenham, managed by former Brentford coach Thomas Frank, expressed interest in the 25-year-old, it was United’s improved offer that ultimately secured the deal, following two rejected bids.

The agreement includes an additional £6 million ($8.07 million) in performance-related bonuses payable to Brentford.

Mbeumo is expected to undergo his medical in time for United’s pre-season tour in the United States, which commences on Tuesday.

He will be the third player to join United since last season’s end, following Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and rising Paraguayan defender Diego Leon to Old Trafford.

Amorim is resolute in his mission to enhance United’s forward capabilities after a disappointing season, which included a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final and a dismal 15th place in the Premier League—its lowest finish since the 1973-74 season.

Strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee faced challenges throughout the previous campaign, prompting Amorim to suggest that Alejandro Garnacho seek a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are anticipated to move on following their loan stints at Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively.

Mbeumo will be the latest addition in Amorim’s endeavor to rejuvenate a lethargic Manchester United.

Despite missing out on Champions League qualification, which could have cost the club around £70 million ($94.11 million), United is continuing its spending spree, having already paid £62.5 million ($84.03 million) for Cunha.

The versatile Mbeumo can seamlessly operate in various positions along the flanks or as a central attacker, bringing pace, creativity, and sharp finishing to the United squad.

His six-year tenure at Brentford saw him score 70 goals and assist 51 times in 242 matches across all competitions, following his transfer from French club Troyes in 2019. Mbeumo played a key role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and their commendable 10th-place finish in the 2024-25 season.
