In 2015, I jumped onto the Pinterest train without any followers and not a clue about how it worked. I’d never enrolled in a Pinterest course, and had probably browsed through a dozen blogs. By maintaining consistency, I eventually witnessed a pin go viral overnight, which transformed everything for me.
Over the past eight years, Pinterest has undergone significant changes, and many popular strategies have become obsolete. I’d like to share a few insights on how I would approach starting anew on Pinterest—what I currently implement for my clients in Pinterest strategy and management, and how I plan to assist them in growing their presence in 2025.
If I were to create a new Pinterest account in 2025, here’s precisely what I’d do.
1. Establishing clear objectives and understanding the VALUE of Pinterest
My approach to pinning would directly reflect my objectives. Having collaborated with a variety of clients, I always tailor strategies according to their specific goals. It’s crucial to be clear and consistent about what you expect Pinterest to achieve for you.
What is Pinterest primarily good at? Directing traffic to your blog or website—serving as a potent tool to expand your email list, generate leads, and earn passive income.
Each pin should bring me closer to my main goals: Am I looking to increase sales? Generate more leads? Are there engaging CTAs on my website? Is there a corresponding funnel in place?
Remain committed to posting content that aligns with your goals. Are you only sharing material that advances your objectives? Ensure your content is pertinent and resonates with the targets you aim to hit.

});
2. Engaging in comprehensive keyword exploration
Keywords are central to Pinterest, given that it functions as a search engine. When starting anew, my initial task after setting objectives would be extensive keyword exploration, covering all facets of my business. From my product offerings to the main topics that shape my content, knowing the language my audience uses is essential.
I would utilize keyword research tools, such as Google’s Keyword Planner and Pinterest’s own search bar, to uncover keywords that resonate with my niche. These keywords would then inform the crafting of pin titles and descriptions that accurately reflect my content.
3. Analyzing the search results
Next, I would take on an investigative role. I’d look up topics I plan to pin about and assess the top-ranking pins. What distinguishes them? More importantly, is there a missing element? Perhaps much of the content in the search results doesn’t appeal to my target audience, or I might have content that matches their interests better. It’s beneficial to understand what exists!
The best way to grasp what performs well on Pinterest? Observe what is being promoted. Use that insight to guide your pinning strategy.
Spotting a gap in the market is akin to discovering treasure. If I can share content that isn’t overexposed or a direct copy of what’s already available, I’ll have a competitive advantage.
It’s about occupying spaces where competitors are absent, while remaining visible to your audience.

4. Elevating my blog content
For each blog entry, I would design at least 5+ pin visuals using Canva. Why limit myself to a single design when I can create five, each highlighting different facets of the same subject?
It’s a best practice on Pinterest to introduce “fresh” pin formats. Furthermore, varying designs cater to diverse audiences. It’s about casting a wider net to determine what captures attention.
Experimenting with different aesthetics can also reveal what style resonates most with your audience.
5. Repurposing Instagram material
Instagram is a platform where nearly every business marketer is active—and you probably have a treasure trove of content you can leverage. Why waste time generating new material? Instead, repurpose your Instagram content, particularly Reels, and turn them into pins. Alternatively, convert them into blog posts.
Every Instagram post could serve as a potential blog entry, which in turn translates into multiple pins.
6. Creating a sustainable pinning plan
The cornerstone of maintaining an enduring Pinterest presence? A posting strategy that aligns with your routine. I would pin content on Pinterest immediately after launching a blog post and schedule additional posts over time.
It’s not about overwhelming the platform; rather, it’s about maintaining a steady and consistent presence. You can define what that resembles and utilize platforms like Tailwind for advance scheduling. Create pin graphics in batches, input the titles and descriptions into Tailwind, and schedule for a month or more ahead.
Pro tip: Refrain from consecutively pinning the same content; spread it out for optimum effectiveness. If you have five blogs to share, pin all five before introducing a new design for the initial blog post.
8. Adopting a long-term mindset
One vital lesson I’ve picked up is that patience is key on Pinterest. The platform’s algorithm prioritizes sustained efforts over fleeting victories.
Pinterest is not like Instagram; it’s not even fully categorized as social media. Search engines require time to “index” (or position) your content and determine where and to whom your material should be presented—and that unfortunately takes time.
Achieving virality and noticeable growth can require several months—my experience took around four, and the timeline can vary based on your niche. Embrace a long-term strategy—since the rewards can far outlast the effort!
At times you may feel stagnant. But once a few pins gain momentum, your account receives a substantial boost, especially if your strategy is well thought out.
Now is the ideal moment to restart on Pinterest in 2024. Make me this promise—don’t become overwhelmed with the pursuit of perfection in your Pinterest marketing. The best strategy is the one you can maintain consistently.
