As Ulster gears up for the upcoming season in 2025, several fresh faces have joined both the coaching and playing ranks, marking a strategic push to reclaim a coveted spot in the top eight.
Among the notable signings is Juarno Augustus, who has made the move from Northampton, along with Australian prop Angus Bell, set to join the squad following the autumn international series.
In the coaching department, Mark Sexton steps in as the new attack coach, while Willie Faloon has taken on a permanent role overseeing the defensive strategy.
Team captain Iain Henderson expressed excitement about the early impact of Augustus and Sexton, noting that many younger players are now better equipped after a challenging season of senior rugby.
“Mark Sexton has been transforming our attacking play; it feels invigorated and dynamic,” the 33-year-old said. “With a few veteran players departing last season, younger athletes are stepping up and have the opportunity to showcase their talents. I’m eager to see how the newcomers stir things up.”
Henderson praised Augustus’s training intensity, stating, “I’m confident he will make a significant impact, which adds to the excitement of our squad. The energy these young players bring is revitalizing; I’ve felt great this pre-season and am ready to embrace this fresh Ulster team.”
Last season, Ulster narrowly defeated Dragons 34-30 at Rodney Parade, but Henderson acknowledged that upcoming matches, including the one at the Affidea Stadium, will present a different challenge due to both teams’ off-season acquisitions.
“They posed numerous challenges to us last year, but with their new signings, they will be a formidable opponent. Likewise, our progress during pre-season means we’re entering the new campaign as a different, stronger team,” he concluded.
