Rolling Through History: Pee-wee’s Iconic Bicycle Unveiled at The Alamo

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (2025) — An exciting addition is coming to the Alamo, and it’s not hidden away.

The iconic stunt bicycle featured in the 1985 movie “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” has found its new home at the Alamo in San Antonio. This beloved bike played a pivotal role in the film, showcasing Pee-wee Herman’s (played by Paul Reubens) quest to recover his stolen two-wheeler at the famous historic site.

Starting in Fall 2027, visitors will be able to see the bike up close as it will be displayed in the Mays Family Legacy Gallery within the forthcoming Alamo Visitor Center and Museum. This comprehensive museum will offer eight galleries that tell the Alamo’s rich history, spanning over 300 years from its Indigenous and Spanish mission origins to the pivotal 1836 battle and its legacy.

The Mays Family Legacy Gallery will emphasize the Alamo’s enduring cultural significance, featuring the stunt bicycle alongside films, music, toys, and other memorabilia that have brought the landmark to life for new audiences in fun and memorable ways.

“We are excited to add this cherished piece of cinematic history to our exhibit,” stated Dr. Kate Rogers, Executive Director of the Alamo Trust, Inc. “The Alamo occupies a space in the hearts of many, and ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ has introduced the site to a fresh audience. This artifact beautifully represents the Alamo’s integration into pop culture, and soon, it will be accessible to visitors at one of Texas’s premier attractions.”

Additionally, the Alamo plans to host a free screening of “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” later this year at Plaza de Valero, allowing fans to relive the adventure in a fitting venue.

While specifics on the acquisition remain under wraps, reports reveal that the bike was purchased at auction for a staggering $125,000 by a private collector in May.
