In a significant development, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed unwavering support for China in safeguarding its sovereignty and developmental interests during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This gathering followed an extraordinary demonstration of unity with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing.
The bilateral discussions between Xi and Kim took place on Thursday, just a day after Russia praised North Korea’s backing in its Ukraine conflict. This continued the visible alignment of relations among Pyongyang, Beijing, and Moscow, stemming from Wednesday’s impressive military parade in the Chinese capital, which celebrated 80 years since the conclusion of World War II.

In a Friday article from North Korea’s official publication, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim asserted, “Regardless of how the global landscape shifts, our friendship will remain steadfast” between Pyongyang and Beijing.
“The DPRK will continue to support and advocate for the Communist Party of China and the People’s Republic of China in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Kim emphasized after his meeting with Xi, according to KCNA.
Xi reciprocated by stating that China and North Korea share a bond as “good neighbors, friends, and comrades” intertwined by fate, expressing his intent to “safeguard, strengthen, and advance” their alliance, as per KCNA’s report.
KCNA confirmed Kim’s departure from Beijing on Thursday, marking his first international trip since meeting Putin in Russia back in 2023.
High-ranking Chinese Communist Party figures, including Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, were present at Kim’s send-off ceremony, as reported by KCNA.
During Wednesday’s military exhibition in Beijing, where the People’s Liberation Army showcased its latest stealth fighters and advanced weaponry amid a grand display, Xi reflected on China’s victory over “Japanese aggression” during the “world anti-fascist war” 80 years ago.
Putin and Kim were part of a gathering of around 26 predominantly non-Western leaders, engaging in a two-and-a-half-hour discussion with Xi on sideline cooperation strategies, a notable example of their unified front. They also met before the parade, commending the deepening military ties between their nations.
Reacting to this meeting, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed Xi on his Truth Social platform, requesting he send “my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, as you all plot against the United States of America.”
A Kremlin spokesperson dismissed Trump’s comments, stating that “no one even considered that.”
Post-meeting, Putin congratulated Kim on North Korea’s foundation day, recognizing Pyongyang’s support for Moscow in its military endeavors in Ukraine.
“The valor exhibited by your military in liberating the Kursk regions is a profound testament to our friendship and cooperation,” Putin articulated in his message, according to KCNA.
Furthermore, he expressed optimism about enhancing the strategic partnership between both countries.
Controversially, North Korea has reportedly deployed thousands of troops to support Russia, particularly in Kursk—a region briefly occupied by Ukraine—while also supplying artillery and missiles for Moscow’s campaign against Kyiv.
During their discussions in Beijing, Kim affirmed North Korea’s “full support” for Russia’s military efforts, describing it as a “fraternal duty,” as KCNA previously disclosed.
