According to sources, Alejandro Garnacho is likely to part ways with Manchester United this summer. His status as a substitute during the recent Europa League final has fueled speculation about his future at the club.
Meetings between United and Garnacho’s representatives are anticipated in the coming days to discuss his potential departure during the summer transfer window, as conveyed by insiders.
The young Argentine winger has expressed dissatisfaction with his limited role since the appointment of head coach Ruben Amorim. His frustration was evident when he played for only 20 minutes in the recent 1-0 loss to Tottenham in Bilbao. The club is prepared to entertain offers for his transfer if a suitable deal arises, as reported.
Sources indicate that Garnacho is particularly unhappy with how Amorim has handled his selection for key matches.
Manchester United is willing to facilitate Garnacho’s exit this summer, especially considering past interest from Napoli and current attention from Chelsea. There are also reports of potential bids from other Premier League teams and clubs in Saudi Arabia.
United is also looking to offload players like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony this summer. Selling Garnacho, who qualifies as an academy graduate under the Profit and Sustainability regulations, could generate significant funds for Amorim to revamp the squad for the upcoming season.
The club’s financial situation has attracted scrutiny, particularly after missing out on a critical £100 million ($135m) revenue opportunity by failing to secure a place in the Champions League following their loss in the Europa League final.
This season has been fruitful for Garnacho, who netted 11 goals in 57 appearances, marking his most successful campaign since debuting in 2022.
Following a spell on the bench in December during a derby against Manchester City, Garnacho emerged as a pivotal figure in Amorim’s lineup during the latter half of the season. He made 14 consecutive starts from March 6 to May 8, participating in both legs of the Europa League’s knockout phases.
However, after a missed opportunity in a 4-1 victory over Athletic Club in the semifinal, he found himself relegated to the bench for subsequent league matches against West Ham and Chelsea, ultimately being left out for the Europa League final.
