Viktor Gyökeres: Arsenal’s Rapid Move to Secure Coventry Star in 48 Hours Amid Transfer Frenzy

Sweden forward Viktor Gyokeres is poised to finalize his transfer to Arsenal from Sporting this weekend.

Reports from BBC Sport indicate that a £63.5 million deal is nearly complete, with final discussions centering on additional payment terms between the two clubs.

The 27-year-old has received clearance to travel for his medical examination, and he is anticipated to sign a five-year contract, officially joining Arsenal in the coming days.

Currently, the Arsenal team is in Singapore as they kick off their pre-season tour across Asia.

Gyokeres has attracted significant attention this summer following an impressive season in which he netted 54 goals in just 52 appearances for Sporting.

Earlier this month, BBC Sport revealed that Arsenal shifted their focus to Gyokeres after encountering stalled negotiations for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

The pursuit of a top-tier striker has been a lengthy endeavor for manager Mikel Arteta, who is eager to bolster his attacking lineup after his squad scored 17 goals fewer than Liverpool, finishing 10 points behind the Premier League champions.

In addition to this potential signing, Arteta strengthened his offensive options last week with the acquisition of 23-year-old England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea.

Previously with Brighton and Coventry, Gyokeres tallied an impressive 97 goals in 102 matches during his two seasons with Sporting, contributing to back-to-back Primeira Liga titles for the club.

In his Championship stint with Coventry, he distinguished himself as one of the league’s most prolific strikers, scoring 43 times in 116 appearances, and earning a spot in the Championship Team of the Year in the 2022-23 season as they reached the play-off final. He made the switch to Sporting for roughly £20 million that summer.

Gyokeres debuted for Sweden in 2019 against Finland and has since earned 26 caps, netting 15 goals for his national team.
