Viktor Gyökeres Transfer: Arsenal Secures Deal with Sporting as Star Striker Heads to London to Wrap Up Exciting Move

Viktor Gyokeres is set to arrive in London this Friday as Arsenal finalizes a substantial £63.8 million agreement with Sporting Lisbon for the striker.

The arrangement includes a £55.1 million (€63.5 million) upfront payment to the Portuguese side, along with an additional £8.7 million (€10 million) in potential bonuses.

Sky Sports News has reported that Gyokeres will be in London on Friday to finalize contract details with Arsenal before embarking on a journey to Singapore to join the squad.

Securing a striker has been a key priority for Arsenal in this summer transfer window, with the club evaluating various options, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Back in June, Sky Sports News indicated that Manchester United had expressed interest in Gyokeres, making initial inquiries through intermediaries.

Recently, Sporting’s president, Frederico Varandas, stated that Gyokeres would not be allowed to leave for anything less than £59 million (€70 million) this summer, disputing a supposed ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the player’s agent which proposed a departure for a fixed fee of £50.8 million (€60 million) plus £8.4 million (€10 million) in add-ons.

Since joining Sporting from Coventry City for approximately £20 million in 2023, Gyokeres has made an impressive impact, recording 97 goals in just 102 appearances during his two seasons in Portugal.

Last season, he netted 54 goals in 52 matches across all competitions, including a memorable hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League, helping secure both the league title and the Portuguese Cup for Sporting.

This transfer marks Gyokeres’ return to English football after his spell at Brighton & Hove Albion starting in January 2018, following loan stints at St Pauli and Swansea City.

While with Coventry, he scored 43 goals over two and a half seasons in the Championship.

Gyokeres Joins a Busy Arsenal Summer

Gyokeres’ arrival is part of a whirlwind summer for Arsenal, who have already announced the signing of midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a £51 million deal, along with another midfielder, Christian Norgaard, joining from Brentford for £15 million.

Additionally, they secured goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for £5 million from Chelsea, followed by a £52 million acquisition of Noni Madueke, and are poised to announce the signing of Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera for an initial £13 million.
