Wales may be facing a significant challenge in their World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan this September, as Ethan Ampadu’s availability is in doubt.
The captain of Leeds United sustained a knee injury during a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League on Monday. Manager Daniel Farke shared the concerning update, stating: “It’s unfortunate. He is expected to be sidelined at least until the international break.”
Farke expressed optimism that the versatile 24-year-old, who can operate both in midfield and defense, might return in time for the matches following the international commitments: first against Kazakhstan on September 4 and then a friendly against Canada just five days later.
“He’s a resilient player. Unfortunately, he will miss our next three fixtures, including the cup match,” Farke added.
“I’m hopeful he’ll rebound after the international break. Losing him is a setback for us, especially with the upcoming challenges ahead.
“[It’s] not the best scenario. He’s our captain and a critical asset. We’ll need to make adjustments in his absence.”
