Since the inception of regional rugby in 2003, the Ospreys have emerged as the most successful club in Wales, securing four league championships and an Anglo-Welsh Cup victory.
In a historic move, Warren Gatland named 13 players from the Ospreys in his inaugural Wales squad back in 2008.
Despite boasting an impressive roster known as the ‘Galacticos’—featuring stars like Shane Williams, Gavin Henson, Ryan Jones, and All Blacks such as Justin Marshall and Jerry Collins—the squad underperformed relative to its talent.
The Ospreys have nurtured true rugby legends, including Alun Wyn Jones, Dan Biggar, Adam Jones, and James Hook. This summer, they celebrated Jac Morgan’s selection as one of just two Welsh players to join the British and Irish Lions squad bound for Australia, alongside Gloucester’s Tomos Williams.
Situated in Wales’ second-largest city, the Ospreys have decided to temporarily relocate to Bridgend for the 2025-26 season. This move is a strategic choice while St Helen’s undergoes redevelopment, leaving their previous ground, the Swansea.com Stadium.
Meanwhile, Swansea council has implemented measures to protect professional rugby in the city, particularly in light of potential changes initiated by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU).
The franchise, which fell under Y11 Sport & Media’s ownership in 2020, faced a proposed merger with the Scarlets in 2019. Talks regarding a merger with Cardiff in 2023 were subsequently dismissed, though the WRU is eager to reignite those discussions.
