While I haven’t faced the devastating impacts of COVID that many have, I hesitate to express my concerns about life after the pandemic. However, as we seem to be emerging from the depths of it, I’m opting to grant myself the same compassion I urge others to embrace—so, I’m going to voice my frustrations.
Recently, we visited Gibbs Gardens, a beautiful, wooded area in Ball Ground, Georgia—yes, I assure you, that is its real name. The photos show it’s undeniably a stunning location.
We deliberately chose a day meant to steer clear of large crowds. And thankfully, it was peaceful. I can only imagine the bustling atmosphere during weekends with larger crowds, more children, and increased noise. While I’m sure it’s still fantastic, it’s simply not quite as delightful, especially these days.
We encountered solo visitors, couples, and small groups. You know how, when surrounded by friends, people tend to gather and chat? That was certainly the case. As I approached one such group, a thought crossed my mind: Do I need to don my mask?
If I weren’t vaccinated, this would fit into one of those two out of three scenarios ((1) outside and (2) distanced, but not (3) wearing a mask, as that group was unmasked) where a mask isn’t necessary.
